Following the completion of the refurbishment of the Courtauld
Gallery’s Prints and Drawings Study Room, Dr Chris Fischer,
Director of the Centre for the Advanced Study of Old Master Drawings
in Copenhagen, was appointed as the Research Forum Visiting Curator
for 2005-6. Accompanied by his research assistant, Jesper Svenningsen,
Dr Fischer made two visits to the Institute in October 2005 and
January 2006. He carried out invaluable work on the Gallery’s
collection of Italian drawings, including checking attributions
and provenances and advising on the cataloguing of the collection.
In connection with this visit, the Research Forum appointed Thea
Bowden as a Research Assistant (2005-6 Michael Kitson Scholar)
to carry out provenance research on the Italian drawings. Her
report on the project, which includes a contribution from Jesper
Svenningsen, is available here.
