Display and Displacement: Sculpture and the Pedestal from Renaissance to Post-Modern is the first book devoted to the subject of sculptural pedestals. The volume groups together papers from two symposia at the University of Reading and at the Courtauld, respectively in 2002 and 2003, exploring the relation of sculpture to pedestal across a range of periods and approaches. In addition to this a number of new essays were commissioned specially for publication in this volume. The book is the first in a series that will be based on research from the Courtauld collections, conferences and workshops organised under the auspices of the Research Forum.
