Join us for a conversation between artist Peter Joyce and art historian Dr. Ian Massey, where the two will discuss the development of the artist’s work over the course of his thirty-year career. Themes will include the roles of landscape and memory in Joyce’s painting, along with an examination of his studio practice, and the key influences that have informed the work. The event will take place within the context of his upcoming exhibition with Jenna Burlingham Fine Art at Gallery 8, so allowing for specific reference to his current work. There will be an opportunity for guests to ask questions after the discussion.
Dr Ian Massey is an art historian, writer and curator specialising in Modern British art. Ian is author of the monograph Patrick Procktor: Art and Life (Unicorn Press, 2010) and co-author with Anthony Hepworth of Keith Vaughan: The Mature Oils (Sansom & Company, 2012). In 2012 Ian curated the first major retrospective of the work of Patrick Procktor since the artist’s death and he is currently writing a book on the St Ives sculptor John Milne.
