Guided Tour of the National Liberal Club followed by Christmas Lunch

Friends guided tour of the National Liberal Club and Christmas Lunch

Fri 17 Dec, 2021

Founded in 1882 by William Ewart Gladstone, the National Liberal Club, although completely independent of any party, continues to be closely identified with the Liberal tradition, and Liberals worldwide. It was one of London’s first major gentlemen’s clubs to admit women as full members.

Overlooking the Thames, with “the most splendid terrace in London”, the club is housed in an extraordinary building by noted Victorian architect Alfred Waterhouse. The inside is still largely untouched with wide circular staircases and wonderful Victorian tile work on fireplaces and pillars.  There is also a fine collection of paintings. Over the years, members have included H.H Asquith, Rupert Brooke, G.K. Chesterton, Winston Churchill, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Henry George, George Bernard Shaw, Bram Stoker, Dylan Thomas, H.G. Wells and Leonard Woolf to name but a few.

We are very privileged to not only have a guided tour of this magnificent and historical building but also to have been invited to have our annual Friends Christmas Lunch in the National Liberal Club dining rooms.

Places are limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

The ticket price includes a guided tour and an illustrated guide to the building to take home, a three course lunch and half a bottle of wine.

The tour and lunch cannot be booked separately on this occasion.
