Scholarships and funding

Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Doctoral Awards Scheme
www.ahrc.ac.uk
British and EU students accepted onto the PhD programme are eligible to apply for an AHRC Professional Doctoral Awards Scheme to cover tuition fees and, in the case of British applicants, an allowance for maintenance. Although this award is highly competitive, students on the Institute’s conservation courses have thus far been very successful.

If you are offered and accept a place on the PhD, it is essential to act quickly and efficiently, because the deadline for applications is soon after interviews. If you wish to apply for an AHRC award, you can find the application form here. We will strongly support your application, but there can be no guarantee of success.

Courtauld Scholarships

The Courtauld has several scholarships available and the application form can be found here. Those that wish to be considered (including continuing students) should submit their scholarship application by 3 February 2012.

Home vs. Overseas Fees

In order to qualify for ‘home’ fees under this category, you must meet all of the following criteria:

(a) you must be settled in the UK on the first day of the first academic year of the course;

(b) you must be ordinarily resident in the UK on the first day of the first academic year of the course;

(c) you must have been ordinarily resident in the UK and Islands (the Islands means the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) for the full three year period before the first day of the first academic year of the course (for example, if your course begins on 1 October 2012, you must have been ordinarily resident in the UK and Islands from 1 September 2009 to 31 August 2012);

(d) the main purpose for your residence in the UK and Islands must not have been to receive full-time education during any part of that three-year period.
