Candidates will be assessed by three written examinations and one assessed essay. The Period course is assessed by one three-hour paper, the Foundation course by one three-hour paper, the Texts and Contexts course is examined by one two-hour paper and the Topic course is assessed by an essay of 5,000 words, with a 5% tolerance upwards (ie 250 words) maximum (excluding footnotes). If an essay is over-length, the final over-length section will not be read.
